Our Kitchen & Classes

At Babbling Brook Acres, we offer Canning Classes in our rural kitchen.  

​

Whether you are a novice and want to learn how to can your fresh fruit and vegetables or you want to take your canning expertise to the next level, our Canning Classes are for you.

​

There are limited numbers for each class, so don't wait to register.  First-come, first-serve and they fill up fast.

​

Custom classes can be arranged for groups of 3 to 6.  Contact Brook.

Canning Class
Canning 101
Cost: $35

CLASS DATES:

In this 2 to 2.5 hour class, you will learn all the basic information about the different types of canning and how to do it safely.

There will be in-depth conversations on what to and what not to can and why.

 

The class will do a simple fruit jam recipe at the end of class, and participants can take a jar home with them.

  • Types of canning: Water bath vs pressure

  • Canning equipment

  • What can be canned and what can’t be canned

  • Make a simple fruit jam

 

The 2020 “Ball Blue Book Guide to Preserving” may be purchased for $13 at the time of the class.

 

The minimum number of students required is 2 for the class to be held.

fermetation
Fermentation Workshop
Cost: $40

Come learn the basics of fermentation with Brook from Babbling Brook Acres and Lauren from Echo Valley Farm.

This class will include the tasting of several different ferments that we have prepared including kombucha, sauerkraut, veggie mix and hot sauce. 

 

In class, you will get hands-on experience and learn how to prepare sauerkraut.  Each participant will go home with a quart jar of their own sauerkraut to tend to and eat at a later date.

 

Once you learn the basics of the fermentation process, it can be applied to many different fermentation items.  Handouts and class materials are included with the registration fee.

 

Class size limited to 10 students.

WaterbathCanning
Water Bath Canning: Jams, Pickles, Relishes and Sauces
Cost: $40

This 3-hour class will go more in depth on water bath canning, the different items that can be made and how to make them.

Babbling Brook Acres
Pressure Canning: Low Acid Vegetables, Meats and Soups/Sauces
Cost: $40

CLASS DATES:

This three-hour class will go in depth into pressure canning. We will be covering all of the major groups that can be pressure canned safely and how to determine canning times.

  • Raw pack vs hot pack: How to decide

  • What vegetables must be done with pressure canning

  • Preparing meat for canning

  • Jar preparation for pressure canning

  • Pressure canning process: venting and pressure generation

  • How to store your canned products

 

The minimum number of students required is 2 for the class to be held.

Kombucha
Kombucha
Cost: $35

CLASS DATES:

  • 2025 Schedule TBA 

This 2-hour class will take you through the entire brewing process on how to get your Kombucha set up and going.  You will learn how to handle your SCOBY (Symbiotic Colony of Bacteria and Yeast) and keep it producing many batches of home brewed Kombucha.  

We will be tasting several of my favorite flavors and learn the simple ways to flavor your Kombucha after the initial fermentation process.

 

You will get handouts and can purchase a SCOBY for $5.00 depending on availability.

 

Class size limited to 6 students

Class refund policy:

  • You may cancel your class registration by phone, email or via Facebook Messenger.

  • If you cancel 7 days or more before the event date, you will receive a 100% refund.

  • If you cancel 4-6 days before the event date, you will receive a 50% refund of the payment for the class. 

  • If you cancel 3 days before the event date, you will receive a 25% refund of the payment for the class.

  • Cancellations made less than 72 hours before the event date will lose the payment for the class.  The owner has the right to be flexible here.
